Because they aren't famous.
rawr will probably get everything back because not only do they give their money to the game, they also bring money into the game for Anet.

While I don't expect anyone to care about what I lost, the deletion of a guild that has won 5 gold capes and organized two independent tournaments for the community just absolutely enrages me. I'm sure people that lack empathy find this hilarious, but I am getting increasingly paranoid about the state of security in Guild Wars or the GW fansites. While I haven't won a gold cape, I've poured thousands of hours into my character, and I really wish Anet would institute a method to prevent deletion of certain characters, guilds, or items.
Awowa or any of the other people hacked in the past couple months don't deserve this. People are quick to blame the victims, but recent threads indicate that people are losing items or accounts despite avoiding goldsellers or 3rd party programs. It's absolutely unacceptable that unscrupulous people can hide behind their computer screens taking advantage of people's work for personal gain or amusement. It's outrageous and something desperately needs to be done to correct the situation.

How does hosting a tournament that people who already own the game play in bring more money to the game? Anyone that played in their tournament has already bought the game and most likely all the "expansions".

not only does it promote the game getting more people interested in the competitive sides of the game, it also keeps the game fresh and interesting to already existing players, making it more likely for them to buy future GW related products such as GWII

Wow, this is just crazy. [rawr] is known even to the pve crowd, and for a breach like this to occur is shaking to say the least. No doubt Awowa will get his stuff back, he is the closest thing in power to a GM in this game without having the colors.
P.S.- RIP [rawr], may you be rez'd soon!

Wow that sucks. Yet another reason to not be that famous I guess. It's the old 'be so poor you got nothing to steal' thing

I doubt it. No one goes "Get me this game because I want to play the game with that guild in it!" They buy the game because it's a free to play online RPG. THAT brings money into the game for them. What the community does after that is their business.

and they'll do even more for the game when they suck this up and start over, relating to the players that this has happened to before. Unless they can single-handedly support ArenaNet in future endeavors, it's the best option.
My best wishes to the guild. That is a shitty thing to have happened. Hopefully, as is usually the case when something like this happens to someone well known, there will be some cahnges coming out of it. I don't know what changes, but perhaps a guild structure that relies on more than one person to disband it, or some kind of 24 hour timer before someone can delete a character that is over 24 hours old or something..
Their loss SHOULD be the game's and the community's gain if ANet takes a hint and decides to do something to mitigate things like this from happening. They'll make a comeback, I'm sure - just like thosde people that had all their stuff taken away after 3000+ hours of gaming. Don't quit.
